Miami-Dade Water and Sewer as Heartless as Ever
During these hard times, you would expect Miami-Dade County to be more understanding when it comes to overdue bills. Turns out they are just as heartless as ever. When we came back from our trip to Aquatica at Sea World, we found out that our water had been cut off (as ironic as that is). There had been a letter warning of the impending shut off, but that came after we had left to Orlando, which was within a day of the impending shut down on Friday, June 26, 2009. Due to the fact that the letter way dated as June 1, 2009, the United States Postal Service lack of expediency (likely because of cost cutting amid the recession) seems directly at fault for the incident. It is also possible that American Express is at fault. Whatever the case, the payment was due on May 26, 2009, which made it a month overdue when the water was shut off. The fact that my dad always pays his water bill on time did not seem to raise any alarm bells. Having the decency to wait until Monday never seemed to cross Miami-Dade County's mind either. Lucky for us, my dad was able to turn the water back on himself, while we wait for the problem to be fixed during business hours on Monday. We are fortunate that this is not due to us being unable to pay, but based on this incident, those in that condition will get no mercy from Miami-Dade County.
